1. STANDARD FERTILIZER-GRADE UREA

Solarim Trading offers fertilizer-grade urea conforming to internationally recognized quality requirements. Unless otherwise agreed in the sales contract, the following specification may be used as the standard commercial basis though the final specification depends on the exact source and may differ between Gulf and Eurasian supply sources.

ParameterStandard Commercial Specification
AppearanceWhite, free-flowing solid granules/prills
Total Nitrogen (N), dry basis46.0% min.
Biuret1.0% max.
Moisture0.5% max.
Free Ammonia0.01% max.
Aldehyde0.45% max.
Ash0.01% max.
Iron (Fe)1.0 ppm max.
Alkalinity as NH₃0.01% max.
Insoluble matter0.01% max.
Particle sizeSubject to agreed grade and contract specification
ColorWhite
OdorPractically odorless

Note: The numerical values above are a proposed commercial specification. The final contractual specification should always be based on the producer’s Certificate of Analysis (CoA), the buyer’s purchase specification, and the applicable destination-country requirements. The data are provided for informational purposes only. In case you or your client require urea, please contact the supplier of urea.

2. GRANULAR UREA — TYPICAL COMMERCIAL GRADE

Granular urea is generally supplied for mechanized agricultural application and bulk fertilizer handling.

ParameterTypical Requirement
Nitrogen (N)46.0% min.
Biuret1.0% max.
Moisture0.5% max.
Granule sizeTypically 2–4 mm
Granules within specified size rangeTypically 90% min.
AppearanceWhite, uniform, free-flowing granules
Dust/finesMinimized and subject to agreed specification

Data are provided for informational purposes only. In case you or your client require urea, please contact the supplier of urea.

3. PRILLED UREA — TYPICAL COMMERCIAL GRADE

Prilled urea is a smaller-particle form commonly used in fertilizer distribution and diverse agricultural applications.

ParameterTypical Requirement
Nitrogen (N)46.0% min.
Biuret1.0% max.
Moisture0.5% max.
Particle sizeTypically 1–3 mm
AppearanceWhite, free-flowing prills
Dust/finesSubject to agreed specification

For reference, FAO’s published fertilizer specifications identify 46% minimum nitrogen, 1% maximum moisture and 1.5% maximum biuret for both free-flowing and granular urea, with particle-size requirements differentiated between the two forms. The data is provided for informational purposes only. In case you or your client require urea, please contact the supplier of urea.

4. INTERNATIONAL STANDARDS & TEST METHODS

ISO 18642:2016 — Fertilizer-grade urea: General requirements

This is the principal ISO standard specifically addressing fertilizer-grade urea. It covers requirements relating to testing, sampling, sample preparation, marking/labelling, packaging, transportation and storage. It applies to solid agricultural fertilizer urea, including granular, prilled and pastilled forms.

ISO 18643:2016 — Determination of biuret

Specifies an HPLC method for determining biuret in solid and liquid urea-based fertilizers.

ISO 19746:2017 — Determination of urea content

Specifies an HPLC method for determining urea content in urea-based fertilizers and related products.

ISO 17318:2015 — Trace elements

Provides methods for determination of arsenic, cadmium, chromium, lead and mercury in fertilizers.

ISO 17322:2015 / ISO 17323:2015 — Sulfur-coated urea

These standards are relevant when Solarim Trading supplies sulfur-coated urea (SCU), covering analytical methods and general requirements respectively.

5. PRODUCT GRADES OFFERED

Solarim Trading may specify the following commercial grades according to customer requirements:

A. Urea 46% Granular

  • Agricultural fertilizer grade
  • Typical particle size: 2–4 mm
  • Nitrogen: 46% min.
  • Suitable for bulk handling and mechanical spreading

B. Urea 46% Prilled

  • Agricultural fertilizer grade
  • Typical particle size: 1–3 mm
  • Nitrogen: 46% min.
  • Suitable for conventional fertilizer application

C. Low-Biuret Urea

  • Reduced biuret specification for applications requiring greater purity
  • Exact biuret limit to be agreed in the sales contract

D. Specialty / Industrial Urea

  • Available subject to specific customer requirements
  • Chemical purity, biuret, moisture, trace impurities and other parameters to be established according to the intended application

6. PACKAGING

Depending on buyer requirements, urea may be supplied in:

  • 25 kg bags
  • 50 kg bags
  • 500 kg big bags
  • 600 kg big bags
  • 1,000 kg big bags
  • Bulk shipment (exceptional circumstances).

Packaging material, bag construction, labeling and net weight shall be agreed between Solarim Trading and the buyer.

7. QUALITY DOCUMENTATION

Each shipment should, where contractually required, be accompanied by:

  1. Certificate of Analysis (CoA)
  2. Certificate of Origin
  3. Commercial Invoice
  4. Packing List
  5. Bill of Lading / Transport Document
  6. Safety Data Sheet (SDS), where applicable
  7. Independent inspection certificate, if required by the buyer
  8. Other certificates required by the destination country or letter of credit

8. INSPECTION & SAMPLING

Quality shall be determined from representative samples taken in accordance with the applicable contractual sampling procedure and relevant international standard.

Where an independent inspection is required, inspection may be performed by a mutually agreed internationally recognized inspection company. The inspection scope should be defined in the sales contract or purchase order. Under current conditions hoice of the agency may depend on political and geopolitical circumstances at the point of supply and shipment.

9. STORAGE & HANDLING

Urea should be:

  • Stored in a dry, covered and well-ventilated environment.
  • Protected from rain, moisture and condensation.
  • Kept away from incompatible materials and contamination.
  • Handled in a manner that minimizes product degradation, crushing and excessive dust generation.
  • Stored in accordance with the producer’s SDS and applicable local requirements.

10. CERTIFICATION STATEMENT

Solarim Trading confirms that the urea supplied under its commercial contracts shall conform to the agreed product specification and shall be supported by the relevant producer Certificate of Analysis. Where specified in the contract, testing shall be performed according to applicable ISO or other mutually agreed international methods.

11. CONTRACTUAL SPECIFICATION

The final specification applicable to any shipment shall be the specification expressly stated in the relevant Sales Contract / Purchase Order / Proforma Invoice / Letter of Credit, and other forms of payment or guarantee thereof, as applicable.

Any parameter not expressly specified shall be subject to the producer’s standard commercial specification and applicable laws and regulations in the country of destination.

Important commercial note

This is a Sample or Typical Specification” rather than presenting the proposed values as a universal international standard. ISO 18642 is the most directly relevant international reference for agricultural fertilizer-grade urea.

If Solarim also trades AdBlue/DEF (32.5% urea solution), that should have a separate specification sheet under ISO 22241, rather than being combined with fertilizer urea. ISO 22241-1 covers the quality requirements for AUS 32 used in diesel SCR systems.
